The 1st Meeting of the Implementation Working Group UNESCO IHP
10 Dec. - 12 Dec. 2012
Koblenz, German
The strategic plan of the IHP (UNESCO) for the eighth phase (2014-2021) focuses on "Water Security, responses to local,
regional, and global challenges". Fewest of the transboundary watersheds worldwide are managed in appropriate cooperation
among riparians although existing water problems will increase. Water security is essential for regional security.
For these reasons, and on the occasion of the year of water cooperation 2013, implementing the 8th phase of
IHP with a strong view on strengthening regional cooperation is discussed.
