Rainfall-runoff modelling

Rainfall-runoff modelling
Schematic drawing of rainfall-runoff processes on a hill slope
Heavy precipitation is first provided to mountainous forests; then runoffs to rivers through hill slopes. This process includes many micro-scale sub-processes such as interception by tree leaves/trunks associated with evaporation, infiltration to surface soil layers, three dimensional underground flows,…etc. At a catchment (macro) scale, on the other hand, a rain pulses is converted to a runoff (river water level) pulse, which have garnered huge attention in hydrology involving tremendous research works in a long history. In this theme, I have been struggling the reasonable numerical modelling of rainfall-runoff processes.
